The term spinal cord injury refers to damage to the spinal cord resulting from trauma (e.g. a car crash) or from disease or degeneration. Although there is no perfect figure for its incidence, but an estimated count for it is 40 to 80 cases per million population. Just like healthy people are the backbone of any country’s economy, the spine is a vital organ that nurtures the well-being of an individual.

What areas of our body are affected due to Spine problems?

Your back

Back pain is something that most people will suffer from at some stage in their lives. Lower back pain originates in the lumbar spine. It is usually either mechanical pain (back strain linked to the movement of the spine) or compressive pain (caused by pressure or irritation on the spinal cord).

Your neck

A stiff or painful neck is also a common occurrence, and again it is usually not a serious issue. Just as you can wake up in the morning with a stiff neck if you slept in an awkward position, you can get a sore neck or muscle strain if you are bent over a desk all day. Like your back, your neck is exposed to tension and stress all the time. And, although you may not feel pain at the time of an injury, it can slowly degenerate your cervical spine.

Your shoulder

Shoulder problems are also common and develop from everyday use, overuse and injury. The natural process of aging can also cause them. The shoulder joint has the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body, making injuries the most common cause of shoulder pain.

Considering the amount of strain our spine goes through it is important to take care of it and consult an expert in case the pain persists. Many severe spine-related illnesses are often untreated, leading to many serious problems. For the benefit of the people suffering from back pain and other serious issues related to spine, a consultation camp will be organised at Regency Medical Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This camp will be held on 25th & 26th October 2017, between 8am & 5pm, and it is conducted in association with The Spine Centre, India. Here, the visitors will be able to consult the Spine experts and also get opinions on surgeries and treatments.
