We live in a technologically enhanced age of phones and laptops, where our health is going for a toss. We have stopped exercising and most of us have desk jobs. This has resulted in a lot of physiological problems like back pain, neck pain and spinal problems.
Regency Medical Centre is coming up with its second Spine and Orthopaedic Consultation Camp in Dar es Salaam by the end of the year. They have invited two of the leading Spine and Orthopaedic surgeons from India. This camp is being held on 19th and 20th December 2019 at Regency Medical Centre, Aly Khan Road, Dar es Salaam.
Why is this camp important for you?
The camp will offer diagnosis and treatment for the following problems:
- Neck Pain
- Back Pain
- Spinal Surgical Procedures
- Spinal Cord Problems
- Sciatica Problems
First day of the camp:
It is extremely important to find a solution to your neck, back, shoulders and spine problems before it becomes incurable. The main objective of this spine and ortho camp is to facilitate the people of Dar es Salaam with medical and health care. This will ease these orthopaedic problems.
The first step is to find out the cause of the neck/back pain and spinal problems. It also focuses on different kinds of treatments available for the same. The first day of the camp is all about the diagnosis and prognosis of different physiological problems. These include bones, muscles and joints that make it difficult for people to carry out various day to day life activities.
Second day of the camp:
On this day, the doctors will conduct surgeries. Then they will suggest treatment for those who have been diagnosed with different kinds of issues in the back, neck, joints and spine.
Causes of neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain and spinal cord problems:
Several things contribute to back and neck problems. These things range from unhealthy and unfit lifestyle choices, old age, sitting/sleeping positions, overexertion, stress, injuries caused by accidents or physical activities, birth defects, calcium deficiencies, obesity or weight gain, pregnancy or sheer carelessness in taking care of the spine.
The older generation took good care of their bodies and took part in regular physical exercises. This eventually helped in keeping the spine, back and neck healthy and flexible. This is where our generations fall back a little.
The muscles around these body parts also need regular exercise so that stiffness can be avoided.
Symptoms of these problems:
- Problem in sleeping
- Problem in sitting
- Excruciating pain while getting up or while moving the neck
- Trouble while driving a vehicle
- Acute pain in either of the two shoulders while lifting things that are heavy
- Pain in the neck while working on computers and laptops
- Extremely stiffness in the upper or lower back area
- Locked neck movement
- Chronic pain in joints while walking or running
- Restricted movement of shoulders, hands or legs
- Pregnant women with a spinal or back problem
Prognosis: Surgeries, treatment and therapy
The objective of this camp is to provide the people of Tanzania with effective treatments and therapies. They will also provide some precautionary measures that will help them keep these problems at bay.
Physiotherapy:
The treatment can be decided to keep in mind the magnitude of the issue. A lot of spinal injuries, back and neck pains can be cured with the help of physiotherapy. This mode of treatment does not have any side-effects but needs a lot of consistency, dedication and time.
Surgery:
Some problems turn out to be severe. The only option left with the patient is to go through a surgery that will cure the problem at its core. Supportive physiotherapy can be prescribed thereafter. A lot of precautions are also important at this stage as these surgeries need a lot of post-operative care.
In some cases, the problem can also be neuromuscular. In such cases, the person would need a specialist that only caters to the brain and nervous system.
